Binghamton NY chapter member Sumantra Sarkar had the pleasure of meeting the distinguished noble Laureate M.Stanley Whittingham, while attending 2020 Engineers week dinner where Professor Whittingham presented "The Origins of the Lithium-Ion Battery, the Nobel experience and the potential impact of Energy Storage"
Michael Stanley Whittingham is a British-American chemist. He is currently a professor of chemistry and director of both the institute for materials research and the Materials Science and Engineering Program at Binghamton University.
Professor Whittingham was awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for development of lithium-ion batteries, which "have revolutionized our lives" and "laid the foundation of a wireless, fossil fuel-free society."
