Title: Six Thinking Hats – A Leader’s Guide to Practical Thinking - Dick Orth Abstract: Six Thinking Hats® is a proven thinking tool for group discussions and individual thinking. It provides a framework to help people think clearly and thoroughly by directing their thinking attention in one direction at a time. The Six Thinking Hats technique stimulates clear, objective, creative thinking, and reduces the “trenching” of endless discussions and arguing. Create shorter, results-oriented meetings where people want to participate. Effectively analyze issues, generate ideas, and make better decisions. The use of hats is a simple mental metaphor. Hats are easy to put on and to take off. Each hat is a different color which signals a unique thinking ingredient. In a group setting each member thinks using the same thinking hat, at the same time, on the same topic — a process called “parallel thinking.” Date & Time Thursday April 8th, 2021 6:30pm EST End Date & Time Thursday April 8th, 2021 7:45pm EST Venue: Virtual via Zoom

Title: Growing Emotional Intelligence Through Constructive Communications - Dick Orth Abstract: Overview The purpose of this two-part interactive presentation is to deepen your awareness of Emotional Intelligence (EI) – the capacity to be aware of, express and channel one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. These foundational leadership skills – and life skills – can be immediately applied at work and also in your personal relationships. The learned skills are also an underpinning for increasing employee engagement, as well as improving – and sustaining – organizational performance. Through lecture, engaging conversations, story-telling and group activities, participants gain an introspection of EI concepts by developing their self-awareness and social-awareness. Part 1 – Foundational Dimensions of Constructive Communications (2.0 hour duration) Discover how to transform the way you communicate, both verbally and non-verbally, using two foundational dimensions of communication that dramatically affect EI. These dimensions guide our personal actions which, in turn, shape an organization’s culture, and ultimately affect business performance. Note that Part 1 is a prerequisite for participating in Part 2 (see below). Part 2 – Providing Constructive Feedback and Resolving Conflict (2.0 hour duration) (This presentation reinforces and expands EI concepts that were introduced in “Foundational Dimensions of Constructive Communications” – Part 1.) Explore additional facets of constructive communication by first considering the characteristics of shared team values and their impact on sustainable success. We will also examine “blind spots” and “masks” that can strengthen interpersonal relationships. We will then learn and apply a six-step Constructive Conversation Process to give and receive feedback, and to also resolve interpersonal conflicts in a constructive manner, by applying powerful techniques for empathetic listening. The goal is to create a culture of trust and continuous feedback.
